HUNT pushes aero climbing performance further with new AM Limitless range

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

For a brand like Hunt Bike Wheels, innovation has never been about chasing headline numbers alone. Since the British company entered the market, they have consistently combined ambitious engineering with a level of transparency that remains rare in the cycling industry. Every major launch is typically accompanied by extensive white papers, wind tunnel data, and detailed explanations of the methodology behind the claims. It is an approach that has helped HUNT build credibility among performance-focused riders who increasingly demand proof, not just marketing slogans.

A new generation of lightweight aero wheels

That philosophy continues with the launch of the new AM Limitless range, a collection of lightweight aero wheelsets designed to blur the line between climbing efficiency and aerodynamic performance. Headlined by the 1,156 gram 4AM Limitless Ti_UD Carbon Spoke wheelset, the new range represents HUNT’s latest attempt to challenge some of the most established names in the high-end wheel market.

The flagship 4AM Limitless Ti_UD features a 49.5 mm deep front rim with a substantial 34.2mm external width and a 23 mm internal width, while the rear wheel uses a slightly shallower 47mm-deep and 30 mm wide profile. Both rims are hooked and designed around modern 30 mm tyres.

HUNT claims the wider front wheel profile, enabled by its patented Limitless Width Aero Technology, helps maintain attached airflow at higher yaw angles for improved stability in crosswinds and high-speed descents. The wheelset also uses just 15 front and 18 rear VONOA Ti_UD carbon spokes, each weighing only 1.7 grams, combined with recessed spoke nipples intended to further reduce rotational drag.

Backing up the numbers

According to HUNT’s testing at Silverstone Sports Engineering Hub, the 4AM Limitless Ti_UD is claimed to be 1.4 watts faster than the ENVE 4.5 Pro while weighing 139 grams less. More impressively, HUNT says the wheelset performs within 0.1 watts of significantly deeper aero wheels such as the DT Swiss 55 ARC Dicut BD and Reserve 57/64 Turbulent Aero.

Alongside the flagship carbon-spoke version, HUNT has also introduced more accessible steel-spoke variants of both the 4AM and 5AM wheelsets. The 4AM steel-spoke version weighs 1,283 grams and keeps the same rim dimensions as the Ti_UD model, while using Pillar SuperWing 20 aero steel spokes in a 20 front / 24 rear configuration.

Meanwhile, the 5AM Limitless Steel Spoke wheelset pushes deeper into pure aero territory with a 58mm-deep front rim measuring 34.5 mm externally and a 55 mm deep rear wheel paired to a 30 mm external width. Despite those deeper profiles, the complete wheelset still weighs a claimed 1,339 grams.
