From chainrings to pedals, tools and bottom brackets, Wolf Tooth Components has steadily expanded its catalogue since its foundation in 2013. Its latest move takes the company into the centre of the wheel, with a new range of hubs designed for road, gravel and mountain biking.
The Minnesota-based brand has developed the hubs in-house, combining its characteristic approach to precision machining with the ENVE INNERDRIVE system. Three configurations arrive at launch, covering straight-pull road and gravel, straight-pull XC and trail, and J-bend mountain biking.
The new range also introduces Wolf Tooth’s own angular hub-shell designs, bringing a distinct visual identity to a component that has traditionally been more about what happens inside than on the outside.
Ratchet hub
At the centre of the new hubs is ENVE’s INNERDRIVE system, a ratchet-based mechanism that replaces the more familiar pawl arrangement found in many conventional hubs. Its oversized 42 mm drive rings are designed to spread the load across a larger diameter, while the inboard positioning of the drive components aims to reduce stress on the axle and bearings.
Wolf Tooth is offering four interchangeable ratchet options, from the 40T PRO through to the 100T version. The 40T PRO comes by default on its road and gravel hubs, prioritising low drag, while the 100T option can deliver engagement in as little as 3.6 degrees.
Distinctive identity
The straight-pull road and gravel set weighs 326 grams. Six anodised finishes are available, including Black, Red, Blue, Gold, Orange and Ultraviolet Purple, allowing the hubs to match other components in the company’s catalogue. Wolf Tooth is also launching complete wheel builds around its new hubs, working with ENVE and We Are One rims.
Its Perfect Preload system uses a tuned wave washer to maintain bearing preload automatically, eliminating the need for manual adjustment. The company says the hubs can be serviced without special tools, with standardised bearing sizes, retained ratchets and carefully designed spoke drillings intended to make maintenance and wheel building more straightforward.
