Pues bien, esa corta distancia que en cualquier otra ocasi\u00f3n podr\u00edan ser tan solo unos minutos de ascensi\u00f3n, si el terreno es escabroso y t\u00e9cnico, alcanzar la cima puede acabar convirti\u00e9ndose en una aut\u00e9ntica odisea (y a\u00fan m\u00e1s, si llevas un buen mont\u00f3n de horas pedaleando, cansancio acumulado, y una considerable falta de sue\u00f1o en el cuerpo).<\/p>\n<p>El motivo por el cual hacemos esta puntualizaci\u00f3n es porque durante esta edici\u00f3n 2021 de Badlands, hemos visto en primera persona bastantes abandonos y un gran n\u00famero de corredores sorprendidos por la gran dureza de esta prueba y seguramente, en alg\u00fan momento, la subestimaron.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-15073\" src=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers.jpg 2000w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/finishers-272x182.jpg 272w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2000px) 100vw, 2000px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Badlands 2021<\/h3>\n<p>Sin duda, a parte de los 750 km y los 15.000 m de desnivel de la ruta, uno de los mayores protagonistas de esta edici\u00f3n ha sido el clima. Las altas temperaturas que se han alcanzado durante las horas m\u00e1s cr\u00edticas del d\u00eda han sido uno de los mayores rivales con los que los corredores han tenido que luchar. A pesar de las advertencias, hubo qui\u00e9n no tuvo m\u00e1s remedio que ponerse a salvo, retirarse, y evitar que la situaci\u00f3n se complicara.<\/p>\n<p>Otro de los aspectos a tener en cuenta han sido los cambios en el recorrido con respecto al a\u00f1o anterior. Debido a la falta de obtenci\u00f3n de permisos para poder escalar el pico Veleta, la organizaci\u00f3n ha tenido que modificar algunas partes del track original. Por un lado, se ha alargado el bucle que se realiza por el desierto de Gorafe, pasando de los 30 km originales a un total de 100 km, lo que supone mayor exposici\u00f3n a las altas temperaturas para los corredores. La ascensi\u00f3n al Observatorio del Calar Alto y el descenso a G\u00e9rgal, tambi\u00e9n han sufrido alguna variaci\u00f3n, pero siempre con la intenci\u00f3n de mejorar el recorrido. Por \u00faltimo, pero no menos importante, la meta ha dejado de estar en la capital granadina y ha pasado a estar situada en Capileira, en el entorno natural de la Alpujarra. Da gusto ver c\u00f3mo, poco a poco, m\u00e1s chicas deciden embarcarse en retos como este y consiguen reivindicar que el ciclismo femenino a todos los niveles no es algo casual.<\/p>\n<h3>La lucha por los primeros puestos<\/h3>\n<p>Despu\u00e9s de la gran repercusi\u00f3n que tuvo <a href=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/badlands-a-unique-gravel-experience-in-southern-spain\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Badlands en su primer a\u00f1o<\/a>, en esta edici\u00f3n hemos podido disfrutar de una amplia lista de participantes entre los que se encontraban nombres tan relevantes dentro del mundo del ultra ciclismo como por ejemplo: <a href=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/ulrich-bartholmoes-unbeaten-and-eager-for-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ulrich Bartholmoes<\/a> (reciente ganador de la Transiberica), <a href=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/sofiane-sehili-ultra-cycling-in-the-atlas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sofiane Sehili<\/a> (reciente ganador de la Silk Road Mountain Race), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/mattia_de_marchi\/?hl=es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mattia de Marchi<\/a>, <a \/>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\n<p>Desde el primer minuto de carrera, vimos como un selecto grupo de 10 o 15 corredores que impon\u00eda un gran ritmo y romp\u00eda el pelot\u00f3n en pedacitos. La mayor\u00eda de los que capitaneaban el grupo era la primera vez que corr\u00edan en Badlands y, pese a las advertencias, hicieron caso omiso y siguieron \u201cgastando balas\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Llegaron al primer punto de control en Gorafe, el pueblo que da nombre al primer desierto, con una ventaja de 40 minutos con respecto al ganador de la anterior edici\u00f3n (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/lachlanmorton\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lachlan Morton<\/a>). En este peque\u00f1o pueblo se suele hacer una parada para repostar, comer algo y rellenar todos los bidones de agua antes de adentrarnos en una de las primeras zonas clave de la carrera. Los cuatro que hab\u00edan conseguido resistir (Mattia de Marchi, Ulrich Bartholmoes, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sulekangangi\/?hl=es\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sule Kangangi<\/a>, y Janosch Wintermantel) optaron por no descansar tr\u00e1s dejar el desierto atr\u00e1s y continuaron su camino hac\u00eda G\u00e9rgal. Una decisi\u00f3n que parece un suicidio pero que, visto con perspectiva, es un gran acierto. El hacer el esfuerzo de continuar pedaleando durante la noche te permite, por una parte avanzar con un clima m\u00e1s agradable y, por otro, ganarle tiempo a tus adversarios y, lo m\u00e1s importante, al sol. \u00bfQu\u00e9 queremos decir con esto? Pues bien, nos referimos a que los primeros de carrera consiguieron alcanzar la cima del Observatorio del Calar Alto, descender hasta G\u00e9rgal, y comenzar la traves\u00eda por el desierto de Tabernas con una temperatura a\u00fan aceptable y evitando sufrir el azote de las altas temperaturas.<\/p>\n<p>Mattia de Marchi, una vez que consigui\u00f3 abrir hueco con sus perseguidores, no mir\u00f3 atr\u00e1s ni un solo instante y sigui\u00f3 pedaleando como un animal kil\u00f3metro tras kil\u00f3metro. Absolutamente de locos.<\/p>\n<p>En cuanto a las chicas, vimos a una <a href=\"https:\/\/rawcyclingmag.com\/pedalma-madrid-barcelona-non-stop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sally McHugh<\/a> muy fuerte en la primera parte de carrera pero que, desafortunadamente, tuvo que abandonar por un dolor importante en la rodilla. Por otro lado, vimos a Olivia Dillon (una de las grandes favoritas), sufriendo mucho el calor y la dureza del recorrido a pesar de su experiencia en carreras de este tipo y su gran estado de forma. Pero la victoria fue para la <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/supermajon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dra.
