Cansados de bicicletas pintadas con dise\u00f1os y logos aburridos, cuatro amigos tuvieron la idea de pintar sus bicis con dise\u00f1os radicales y animaron a otros hacer lo mismo. As\u00ed es como se gest\u00f3 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/squidbikes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Squid Bikes<\/a>, evolucionando en la escena ciclista con dise\u00f1os impresionantes, salvajes y poco convencionales, con nuevas texturas y un gran abanico de colores diversos. Ya llevaba a\u00f1os compitiendo en carretera y en 2012 prob\u00e9 CX por primera vez. Me encant\u00f3 la atm\u00f3sfera, m\u00e1s relajado pero al final las carreras tambi\u00e9n eran duras. Hab\u00eda disciplina, entrenos, y mucho sufrimiento, adem\u00e1s del barro y las duras condiciones de carrera. Estaba concentradaal 100% en el programa de CX, pero sent\u00eda que algo fallaba. Todo era muy serio y quer\u00edamos quitar ese estigma tan arraigado. Entonces, Chris, Peter, Marty y yo decidimos empezar a cambiarlo pintando nuestras bicicletas y acabamos fundando Squid Bikes.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[sc name=&#8221;postads1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00bfCu\u00e1l era la idea detr\u00e1s?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Emily) Nuestra intenci\u00f3n era crear cuadros que fueran totalmente distintos al resto. Bicicletas que tuvieran un aspecto divertido, no aburrido y que pudieran reflejar nuestra personalidad. Chris era el encargado de los dise\u00f1os y de la geometr\u00eda de la bici. Empezamos a producir cuadros sin acabados ni pintura para animar a la gente a que los personalizaran ellos mismos. Al principio, solo vend\u00edamos cuadros sin acabado pero, a la que fuimos ganando experiencia probando nuevas pinturas y t\u00e9cnicas, ahora ofrecemos la opci\u00f3n de que te lo pintemos<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>\u00bfQu\u00e9 opciones hay disponibles?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Emily) Hemos perfeccionado 8 estilos y tenemos una extensa paleta de colores de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/spray.bike\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spray.bike<\/a> de la cual elegir. Adem\u00e1s, el acabado puede ser mate o brillante. De este modo, s\u00f3lo ind\u00edcanos tus preferencias y haremos lo mejor que podamos. Sin embargo, siempre intentamos que tu seas el que compre los botes de spray y lo hagas t\u00fa mismo. Empezamos a producir un cuadro de BMX, en aluminio tambi\u00e9n, llamado \u2018Shred to Ed\u2019s\u2019, que ya no est\u00e1 disponible. El siguiente fue el \u2018Fuck off Johnny\u2019, un cuadro r\u00edgido de MTB. Hay una historia divertida detr\u00e1s de ese nombre. Un dia, est\u00e1bamos nadando en un spot local con Paul, de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/paulcomponent\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Paul Component<\/a>, y nos empez\u00f3 a preguntar por el cuadro de BMX. \u00bfSe llamaba \u2018Screw off Suzzie\u2019, \u2018Fuck off Johnny\u2019\u2026? Nos re\u00edmos un mont\u00f3n y nos guardamos el nombre para el cuadro de MTB. Despu\u00e9s producimos dos cuadros en acero de carretera en colaboraci\u00f3n con un artista japon\u00e9s para la convenci\u00f3n de constructores de cuadros de norteam\u00e9rica (NAHBS). Tambi\u00e9n tenemos un cuadro de pista de aluminio (\u2018Trackwondo\u2019) y uno en acero (\u2018SO-EZ\u2019) dise\u00f1ado para cubiertas m\u00e1s anchas y tracklocross.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>[sc name=&#8221;postads2&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tambi\u00e9n produc\u00eds bicicletas en acero, \u00bfC\u00f3mo sucedi\u00f3 eso?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Chris) Ya llev\u00e1bamos tiempo tras la idea de producir un cuadro de tracklocross, y nos contactaron Spray.bike y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bricklanebikes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BLB<\/a> para colaborar conjuntamente. BLB se encargar\u00eda de la producci\u00f3n (en Taiwan) y de la distribuci\u00f3n en Europa. El cuadro viene con una peque\u00f1a capa anticorrosi\u00f3n ya que est\u00e1 hecho de acero, lo que le da un acabado negro. Mi primera carrera fue en 2015 en la zona de la bah\u00eda de San Francisco y me encant\u00f3. Me empec\u00e9 a involucrar m\u00e1s, corriendo y organizando eventos. Ten\u00eda una bicicleta All-city, pero no me convenc\u00eda la geometr\u00eda y el paso de rueda, de modo que prob\u00e9 el \u2018Trackwondo\u2019 porque le pod\u00eda poner hasta 32c. No acababa de ser lo que quer\u00eda, de modo que empec\u00e9 a dise\u00f1ar un nuevo cuadro. Este era demasiado caro para producir en aluminio, pero asequible en acero. Por suerte tuvimos la colaboraci\u00f3n con Spray.bike y BLB. De momento, el \u2018SO-EZ\u2019 ha sido nuestro modelo m\u00e1s exitoso, con m\u00e1s de 500 unidades vendidas. Es una bicicleta agresiva, con \u00e1ngulos pronunciados y una caja de pedalier elevada, como una bicicleta de CX de los a\u00f1os 2000.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>El a\u00f1o pasado (2019) se organiz\u00f3 el primer campeonato mundial de tracklocross. \u00bfAlg\u00fan comentario?<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>(Chris) Hab\u00eda muchos eventos en Jap\u00f3n, y en un viaje al pa\u00eds nip\u00f3n, un amigo y yo decidimos organizar algo grande. Fue algo natural, quer\u00edamos crear una sensaci\u00f3n de comunidad alrededor de la disciplina. Jap\u00f3n parec\u00eda ser el sitio perfecto, nosotros ya hab\u00edamos organizado los Nacionales en EEUU, y ese mismo a\u00f1o los campeonatos de mensajeros eran en Indonesia. Pusimos fechas para que la gente pudiera ir a los dos eventos, como hicieron chicos de EEUU, Australia o Alemania. Pudimos viajar un mont\u00f3n y conocimos a mucha gente. El equipo ha ido creciendo y ha habido nuevas incorporaciones, nuevos modelos de bicicletas, y estilos diferentes. Por ejemplo, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/bengomezvillafane\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ben G\u00f3mez-Villafane<\/a> compite en un alto nivel en CX, mientras que Nico Deportago-Cabrera se centra m\u00e1s en eventos de larga distancia. Desde 2018, cuando Anthony y yo nos retiramos de la competici\u00f3n, y con la situaci\u00f3n global de este a\u00f1o nuestro objetivo ha cambiado. Ahora optamos por diversificar y separarnos un poco del profesionalismo para centrarnos m\u00e1s en las personas que disfrutan pedaleando. B\u00e1sicamente una bicicleta para salir a cualquier sitio y en cualquier momento. Nos gusta destacar la cantidad de agujeros para botelleros, un total de cinco (tres en el cuadro y dos en la horquilla), con lo que tambi\u00e9n podr\u00e1s viajar. Tambi\u00e9n estamos intentando hacer cuadros a mano en acero. Ya hemos empezado pero necesitamos construir un caballete nuevo para los cuadros m\u00e1s modernos. As\u00ed, podremos dar a nuestros clientes la posibilidad de tener su bici a medida y crear proyectos especiales, y no tendremos que producir en lotes.
